The artists, Diane Hidy and Sara Ganz, have enchanted audiences from San Francisco's Davies Symphony Hall to Carnegie Hall in New York City. Between them they have made more than 50 recordings. Diane: One evening very late I was rocking my little girl, Evie, to sleep and just started singing the words of what became The Journey Begins, to her. I have loved the tune to The Water is Wide and wanted to use it as a lullaby, but couldn't figure out what to do for lyrics. That night it became clear to me that I wanted to write a song for my brother and his wife as they waited to go to China to adopt their daughter. The experience was something I had never heard a song about before. Sara: My brother-in-law, Lenny Lipton, wrote the wonderful words to Puff, the Magic Dragon. When he and his wife,Julie were expecting their first child, he was moved to write this magical lullaby. I was pleased to sing it at their baby shower. They now have three beautiful children who have been rocked to sleep with this tune, as well as my son, David. It shares many characteristics with the magical words of Puff. Although Sara, Diane and Angela Koregelos (who plays flute and alto flute on this recording) have enjoyed success in the world of classical music as performers, recording artists and teachers, what they treasure most is being mothers. This recording is near to their hearts and springs from their love for their families.
