简介

Kulcha Far I, a.k.a. Christopher Hakata, was born and raised in Harare, Zimbabwe, Africa. While in Zimbabwe, Kulcha Far I got exposed to reggae in 1980, when Zimbabwe got her independence from British rule and reggae music had begun hitting the radio airwaves. Kulcha was heavily influenced by the incredible reggae roots sounds of reggae legends such as Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Burning Spear, and London-based group like Aswad and Misty In Roots. When Bob Marley performed in Harare, Zimbabwe's capital, during the country's first independence celebration on April 18, 1980, reggae solidly grew roots in the life of Kulcha and scores upon scores of Zimbabwean youths. The rest is now history. In the United States, Kulcha teamed up with bass player/arranger/producer Keith Abrams, master keyboardist Andrew Pursell, guitarist George Abrams and drummer/producer Ian Stison to put together some inspiring, conscious musical works. Known for his spirited and inspired vocals, Kulcha also recorded tracks with Jamaican producer/artist Ranking Scroo in California. In the year 2000, Kulcha Far I released to critical acclaim the long-awaited debut CD, "Africa Is My Roots". Hits like "Zion Destination" "Mwari Wangu" , an ode to Jah, and the epic "Survive", have created global musical waves during Kulcha's roots reggae musical journey. "African Rasta", the new follow-up CD picks up from where "Africa Is My Roots" left off. Recently released in Europe, this is a brilliant roots release with all the elements of consciousness, spiritualism and a downright true African feel to it. "Spirit", "African Drums", "Mt. Zion" and "Ngatibatanei", are some of the plug tracks on this record, which was a collaboration between Kulcha and Netherlands-based producer and master musician Ger Schafer of Luny Music. Message music it is indeed!! Roots and culture music straight from Africa, the Motherland!
