Occasionally patches of rhythm appear, more as suggestions than driving forces and there are a few unfortunate sound effecty choices (like the thunder in track three), but overall the group inhabits an abstract and spare sound space. "Making a Hole for Dynamic Purposes" gets the quietest, with sine wave-like tones predominating, while the following track works up a chugging and scratching momentum that gives the listener a small bit of quasi-normal rhythm to latch onto. There's a certain dryness to several of the pieces and an overly busy quality to others, as though the participants were reluctant to recede for even a moment. But there's also enough sonic fascination produced to enable the recommendation of this disc to fans of the genre, despite the fact that all the musicians involved have done better, more inspired work elsewhere.
