简介
Adam Blacksmith is a thought provoking songwriter, a talented wordsmith and most importantly, a storyteller. His music doesn’t fall neatly into any conventional category, although, those that have tried to box him, have called him “Indie”, “Garage”, “Thrash Folk” and “Post-Folk”. Musically, he combines, folk, blues, Jazz and indie, smashes them with his guitar and makes a mosaic of the best parts. Whilst he happily tips his flat cap to an eclectic list of influences, notably, Gareth Liddiard, Glen Richards, and Grind-core pioneers, Carcass, he maintains integrity by crafting songs beyond comparison. His lyrics are both honest and earnest and are layered with metaphors that provide an audible indulgence for both, the left and right sides of the brain. He unapologetically pays no respect to compromise and as a result, writes songs that are poignant, punchy and bold. He turns his blind eye to mediocrity and his good eye to stories that inspire. Songs such as ...But What’s Her Favourite Carcass Song, Don’t Learn To Dance and Speaking English to A German Shepherd all declare loudly that all hardships, whilst painful at times, are merely a hiccup in the greater landscape. It is difficult to separate the company he keeps with the music he creates. By day, Adam works as a teacher in Sydney’s most notorious prison, in the afternoon he mixes it with the locals in his hometown, Maroubra, and at night, like a true Blacksmith, he fashions his craft from only the rawest of materials. With Dickensian precision, lyrics and a guitar, he caricatures the norm as absurd and paints the most tortured of souls with a palette of pastels. He opens safely guarded doors to hope, love, and addiction then leaves them ajar long enough only to provide a glimpse into another world. He has a bone to pick with the mass media, believes that, insurance is gambling, and prefers the raw from the processed, any day of the week. In 2010 he released his first single flowers for no-one to a packed audience at the Sando in Sydney and from then has continued to hone his craft, fast becoming a song-writer of distinction. He has more recently extended his hand to film and music video production. Brutally honest, Brave and Refreshingly unique.
