( En français plus bas...) With his debut album, Australian guitarist/composer Daniel Hunter, takes listeners on a musical voyage which reflects his own travels over the past 7 years. Featuring saxophonist Warren Walker (The Kandinsky effect), bassist Damien Varaillon (Nicolas Folmer Quartet), and drummer Nicolas Charlier (Thomas Encho Trio), the album includes compositions which recall his home town of Canberra, to the icy Swiss winter, and his current home of Paris. While the music incorporates the European aesthetic, it also preserves flavours that can only be identified as specific to the Australian jazz sound. Some influences are clearly present; John Scofield, Kurt Rosenwinkel, James Muller and Wanderlust. The pieces were all composed on the guitar, and consist of rich harmonic movement and bright melodies. They make the most of the strengths and natural features of the instrument, but are also written with the lyrical qualities of the tenor saxophone in mind. Born in the UK in 1985, Daniel grew up in Canberra, Australia. After taking up the guitar at the age of 13, he soon developed an interest in improvisation. At 17 Daniel began a bachelor of music majoring in jazz performance at the Australian National University School of Music. Daniel graduated with honours in 2006 and continued to work as a teacher and performer in Canberra, playing a wide variety of styles in a diverse range of performance situations. Daniel left for Europe in late 2007, and found himself in Geneva where he decided to based himself for the next 4 years as a teacher, performer and composer. In 2009 the Daniel Hunter Trio was formed with Swiss drummer Alain Reider, and French bassist Dominique Giezendanner. The trio gave regular performances of Daniel’s original music in Switzerland and France. In 2011 Daniel made the move to Paris with the aim of further developing his original projects. As well has his soon to be released quartet album “The Twentieth”, Daniel’s current projects include the jazz duo Passiflora with vocalist An Liz, and Swing group the Don LaRue Combo. He has also appeared with Guillaume Perret, Melissa Cox, Chris Cody, Peta Gammie, Alex Stuart, the Paris Tap Crew, Roxanne Butterfly, Massimo Pinca and Liv Monaghan. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- “The Twentieth” qui signifit le 20ème, est un hommage au 20ème arrondissement de Paris où guitariste Daniel Hunter réside. Entouré par Warren Walker au saxophone, Nicolas Charlier à la batterie et Damien Varraillon à la contre basse, Daniel se lance et enregistre son album tant attendu. Ce premier album est à l’image de ses dernieres années rythmées par ses voyages à travers le globe et ses aller-retours en Australie. Sa musique est un savant contraste entre le rafinement européen et l’exotisme si spécifique au jazz australien. Certaines influences sont clairement identifiables: John Scofield, Kurt Rosenwinkle, James Muller et Wanderlust. Les pièces sont composées de riches mouvements harminiques et de mélodies claires qui aboutissent à de surprenantes interactions entre accords et mélodies. Né en Angleterre en 1985 d’un père anglais et d’une mère australienne, Daniel Hunter grandit à Canberra, en Australie. Il reçoit sa première guitare pour son 13ème anniversaire et s’intéresse rapidement à l’improvisation et à la composition. A l’âge de 17 ans, Daniel commence un bachelor de musique – jazz performance à l’Université Nationale d’Australie et obtient son diplôme avec honneurs en 2006. Il continue ensuite à travailler à Canberra comme professeur de guitare et musicien professionnel dans divers groupes aux différents styles. Daniel part pour l’Europe en 2007 et s’installe à Genève où il explore de nouveaux horizons. En Suisse il poursuit son travail de composition et diversifit ses collaborations notament au sein de Brasiliam avec la chanteuse de bossa nova Ariane Orlandi et la country blues avec l’americain Stephen Poppell. Fort de ses nouvelles influences, Daniel compose de plus en plus et décide de monter son propre projet: The Daniel Hunter trio entouré par Dominique Giezendanner à la basse et Alain Reider à la batterie. Le trio a eu l’occasion de se produire régulièrement en Suisse et en France notament lors du festival Genévois de l’AMR aux Croppettes avec le saxophoniste Guillaume Perret. En 2011 il poursuit son périple pour poser ses valises à Paris. Avec la chanteuse An-Liz il forme le duo jazz Passiflora. Daniel accompagne régulièrement en duo les chanteuses Mélissa Cox et Liv Moaghan ainsi que la compagnie de claquettistes Paris Tap Crew lors de jams et performances.
