Born in Manhattan, New York to Saturnina Cruz, who was an aspiring Opera singer. She sang in places like the Beacon theater, Alice Tully hall and the Metropolitan Opera house fullfiling her dream of being a professional singer. But she never got the recognition she deserved or made a record. Like his mother, J. Cruz also had a passion for the stage. He sang a - capella in Central Park attracting friends and people passing by singing other artist's songs. When rap came around it gave him a chance to write his own material. Like doing things for the first time he struggled learning this new type of music but he learned very quickly and became very good at it. But at that time being a Puerto Rican Rapper was truly unheard of and did not get him any breaks. After a six year stint, the highest he could go at that time was the streets. With no money and no support he decided he had to do something different with his life so he joined the Navy which ended up changing his life, he married and has a daughter. A few years later his childhood friend Mark Anthony Dolphin who was a DJ in their early days, was killed in a hit and run in Raliegh NC, he was on his way to Atlanta to talk to a promoter about a record deal. Mark's death would bother him for years to come. Then one day J. Cruz decided to finish a couple of songs. His mother liked that Mark always pressured him to persue. Mark always wanted him to continue his music career but he was pretty much done with it. He finished his songs but then, he couldn't stop writing, it balloned to over 100 songs! He teamed up with recording artist and producer Cottrell Dawson and made a remarkable combination of Jazz, Hip Hop and R&B with some old school charm, which created a unique sound. He wanted to suprise his mother but tragedy hit home, his mother had a stroke and died, but she at least knew he was back on track. He has now accomplished something she always wanted for her son. Now with the love and support of his family, friends, and fans he can now take this journey to the next level. Enjoy this album because it's for all of you.
