In their home territories of the Netherlands and the Dutch Caribbean Rootsriders are well known for their Tribute2BobMarley live shows. As a backing band they perform as the European backing band for artists like Gyptian, Tanya Stephens & Maxi Priest (among others) but as Rootsriders they are well respected for their energetic and fun filled live shows honouring the King of Reggae. Mitchell Brunings, 1 of Rootsriders' top vocalists, gained worldwide attention when his blind audition at the world's leading talent show The Voice went viral, resulting in 30 million views on YouTube alone. His passionate version of Marley's Redemption Song won him over the hearts of a worldwide audience. Survival35-live was recorded during the sold-out spring tour in 2014, honouring the release 35 years ago of one of Marley's most intense records, Survival. Not many of the songs on this album can be found live (not in good quality at least) thus it being a prime motivation to release the show as an album anyway. "We would never release an album with our versions of all his classic songs you'll find on the Legend album...Those are documented live to perfection by The Wailers themselves, that really would not make much sense. But with Survival it's different. We do think this is a relevant document since many songs haven't been documented (well) live before."
