Giverny began in late 2015 with the concept of bringing a heavily guitar-based sound to analogue synths, electronic beats, dance vocals and lyrics that resemble Fox Mulder meets Phil Collins. As its main producer, singer, songwriter and instrumentalist, Phillip Spiteri is the only official member of Giverny and remains solely responsible for its direction. Phillip Spiteri started his music career at the age of 16 with the introduction to the Metalcore scene as an integral songwriter and guitarist in five-piece band, Curse at 27. In 2010, Curse at 27 disbanded with a range of accomplishments to their name including the release of their debut album ‘The Departed’ in 2009, as well as playing a number of Australian tours and shows with artists such as Parkway Drive and The Amity Affliction. In 2013, Phillip Spiteri began writing for Giverny. While keeping Metalcore elements like distorted reverb guitars reminiscent of Alexisonfire, the sole member of Giverny started experimenting with sampled drums and analogue synth sounds reminiscent of The Cure, New Order and Friendly Fires. With help from producer Jaymz McMullen (formerly apart of UK Drum & Bass band The Raged) and the creative process heavily influenced by David McCann (early 90’s Adelaide techno producer DAMC and member of band Bliss, producer/performer TECHiONE in early 2000's), Giverny was able to find it’s sound. Giverny will be releasing their first debut EP in April 2016 entitled ‘Liabilities’. ‘Liabilities EP’ was recorded in Phillip Spiteri’s home studio in Annandale NSW.
