Containing 10 tracks with a runtime of 38 minutes, the album guides listeners through a variety of moods, melodies, textures and grooves, keeping them engaged in the moment while also allowing them the space to ponder. Analog Universe redefines the ambient genre to include post-rock with flavours of smooth jazz and some decidely edgy moments. It forms a musical journey across several continents in an series of tracks that can serve as simple ambience, or take center stage in the listener’s psyche. It is an audiophile’s dream, produced with great care and focus on atmosphere and sonics, as delightful played quietly in the background as impressive when played at maximum volume. Analog Universe was recorded at Sunbreak Music, Portland, Oregon USA and Calamity Studio, KL, Malaysia and Singapore. It was mixed and mastered at by Paul and Cass at Sunbreak Music. The album will also form the soundtrack of a short film which will be released in part of 2013. This diverse yet focused release features performances from many of the players on “Monjour”, the duo’s previous release, as well as some new guests, namely: -Jeff Leonard (Bass Guitar) who was a member of Tom Grant’s band for 5 studio recordings and tours, and is currently a member of Upper Left Trio, an experimental jazz band. Jeff also released three records as half of the duo “Val Gardena”, an ambient smooth jazz venture. -Don Latarski (Melodic Guitar on “Analog Universe”), the renowned instructor/author and Co-Chair of University of Oregon Guitar Studies. Don plays the main melody on the title track. -Charley Langer (Alto Saxophone, “Theme for an Imaginary Noir”), Solo Smooth Jazz artist, with a current critically acclaimed CD release entitled “Never the Same”. -Benjy Wertheimer (Esraj, “A Space in Time”), founding member of Ancient Future. Benjy is currently recording and touring as Shantala (with his wife Heather), a Kirtan-chant project. -Dale Bradley (Cello, “Theme for an Imaginary Noir, Deep Sighting”), a member of Oregon Mozart Players and Eugene Symphony Orchestra, as well as Mason William’s Band (Classical Gas). -Peter Hollens (Vocal Ambiences, “A Space in Time”), Co-founder of “On the Rocks”, University of Oregon’s A Cappella group, Peter was a favorite on NBC’s “The Sing Off”. He is also a Youtube star, gaining millions of views with his original a cappella versions of pop songs. -Mark Zonder (Drums, “Another Worldly”), widely considered to be one of the most influential drummers in progressive rock/metal, Mark was a member of Prog-Rock band “Fates Warning” and served as the driving beat behind pop/new wave group “Animotion”. -Romy Benton, (Flute), Bamboo Flute maker, session player, artist.
