When listening to the sultry sounds of R&B/Soul artist T.A. (Tasha Andrews) it becomes evident that her music is more than just a way for her to entertain---it’s her special way of communicating with others and is as vital to her existence as oxygen. The Memphis, TN native has been singing since the age of five and initially set her sights on a recording contract as a teen. When things didn’t go as planned, she chose another career but never stopped dreaming of sharing her gift with the world. More than a decade later, T.A. is back, more focused than ever and like the most expensive of wines she has only gotten better with time. T.A.’s music possesses an endearing quality that draws you in and leaves you breathless. Her strong vocals and range remind you of such luminaries as Jill Scott and the late Teena Marie, but she also has an edgy sweetness that is all her own. Her sound has been described as modern old school--reminiscent of days when auto tunes and studio manipulation were unheard of and in order to get a recording contract you had to truly be able to sing. From the first note, T.A. leaves no doubt that she can sing. A stylist by trade, T.A. is used to making people feel good. Only this time instead of whipping hair and applying makeup she is evoking happy feelings by singing a mix of original and throwback melodies. Her debut CD, Lovers & Friends, was released Valentine’s Day 2011. According to T.A., this beautiful compilation of songs is personal but at the same time something anyone can relate to. Just like love, her music is meant to give others a natural high. “This CD is about relationships—the ups and downs, the good and the bad and the importance of being friends as well as being lovers. Like so many others, I’ve been hurt by love and this album was, in a lot of ways, my therapy. But once I got it all out I was able to let it go. Through the process of this album I found my way back—back to music and back to love,” says T.A. “I’m really proud of what I’ve been able to do musically and personally. This is definitely a CD others can relate to and at the same time enjoy.” Lovers & Friends is T.A.’s musical homecoming and if she has things her way she will never leave again. A dreamed deferred has now become reality and the world is invited to listen, learn, and love.
