Fred Haywood is an American saxophonist, composer and performer. He was born in Mississippi and grew up in East St. Louis, IL. He started his music career by playing the saxophone at the age of 14. After high school, Fred attended Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, IL. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communications with a minor in Jazz Studies. While attending college at SIU, he performed with various Jazz combos and Gospel Choirs... Fred’s music is a blend of gospel with elements of Jazz, Soul and Blues. In 2007 Fred released his first solo recording entitled The Fred Haywood Project Vol 1- Hymns recorded in a Creative Style which included his own arrangement of Traditional Hymns.
