In the meanwhile The Deadfly Ensemble of the artistic persona named Lucas Lanthier kept us a really good and affected company, but the time has come for the masks to fall down and reveal the new soundscapes of Cinema Strange, the time is right to bear witness of the long-awaited third full-length work of the avant-garde death rock act Cinema Strange. "Quatorze Exemples Authentiques Du Triomphe De La Musique Décorative" is its title and i can't imagine someone could ever think that our beloved death rockers from California would ever betray their fanbase and release something not awesome, on the contrary, they returned with a strong album that strikes down the listener with its dynamism, keeping as well the theatric and poetic passages Cinema Strange always had. The vocals of Lucas Lanthier are utterly expressive, his overwhelming vocal lines sound so asphyxiating, melancholic, paranoid, artistic, keeping this unique, influenced by Andi Sexgang (of the legendary The Sexgang Children) without copying though, voice, whereas the bass lines of Daniel Ribiat are marvellous, they lend the ideal depth and groove to the compositions and they stand proudly imposing and soul-crushing at the front of the production (which is quite 80s if i may say!!!!), something i exceptionally loved. The guitar work for one more time is well-conceived and above all well-expressed, sounding either mourning, dark and lurking, distressing, tranquil, straight to your face or more drunken and abstract, depending on the tempo and the feeling of the song, dancing beautifully to the sinister waltz of Lucas Lanthier's dramatic and heart-rending projections and allow me to say that this time Cinema Strange managed to present their best and more affected interpretation in terms of guitar work! The drumming is highly creative, offering many interesting ultra groovy passages here and there keeping the vibe of the band alive and flowing, Danny definitely knows what he's doing, completing in the most appropriate way the utterly important role the rhythm section plays in Cinema Strange's existence. And what can someone say about the piano and keyboard passages that make their appearance in the overall atmosphere of "Quatorze...", just listen to the spooky lullaby "Intermezzo Bright Violet Euphoria" and you'll get what i mean, sounds sometimes can express much more than words so i'd better remain silent, as for you, enjoy the moment as much as i did, don't be afraid to lose yourself in the fragrance of this astonishing piece of art. Romantic, artistic, non-compromising, poetic; that's what Cinema Strange are and they refer to an audience that paces with the characteristics i just mentioned. Compositions like "Mr. Quilt's Rotten Luck", "Needlefeet, "Unlovely Baby", "Intermezzo Bright Violet Euphoria" and "Molars" won't disappoint you, on the contrary, they will become a sweet addiction!
