You will rarely find In Evil Hour pondering introspective or personal issues, preferring to base their hardcore-tinged punk rock on socio-political themes. Following on from 2013’s full-length The World Bleeds Out, Built on our Backs continues to call out the myopic outlooks causing the destruction of our shared environment, often in the interests of material or monetary gain. The title track lashes out at the ingrained social systems that maintain our social hierarchies, protecting conservative influences and inhibiting change in their native UK. ‘Predators’ closes the record with a damning indictment of the use of drone strikes, and questions the moral and political cost of the continued war crimes perpetrated by our governments in the name of freedom and democracy. Throughout the 6 tracks In Evil Hour explore some of their most melodic moments (Ascension and Bright Lights) whilst never straying too far from their roots.
