A Debut Album: “DDR / agitprop” Agitprop is a notion that first appeared during the October Revolution. It is a method of propaganda and agitation which uses actual life’s instruments to mobilize the working-class. It’s not a coincidence that DDR named their first album as agitprop. The band taking its name from German Democratic Republic began to take shape in 2002 and started recording in 2007 with its actual members. Agitprop is the continuation of DDR’s line, which suggests making political music without hesitating to express this. Agitprop, while comprised of political music, does not fall into simple sloganism; a sort of raving and inner voice establishes its aesthetic while searching for inward channels as an inner voice. Wars, tanks that are ready to get mobilized with a single command, evil, and placid schizophrenia of souls that can still breathe in spite of the madness named as” the daily life”, constitutes the climate of 14 agitprop tracks. DDR does not promote contemporary popular music’s lines which are the products of mediocre poetry and compositions aiming to entertain. It creates a vocal performance based on lyric, sound and the imagery opposed to popular understanding of singing. This approach of DDR is evident in the songs of agitprop such as 20 Yarda, Pli Pli and İkiz Tepeler. The Release of DDR’s first album from Peyote Music which is incorporated to alternative cultural life creates a coherent unity. Album’s mixing is done by Mehmet Cem Unal while mastering carries Replikas’ BurakTamer’s signature. Agitprop is a defiant album expressing a change and novelty in our arid musical world. It is a holistic work which disturbs, amuses, and agitates the listener and encourages contemplation. For all restless souls.
