Benito M. Martinez is a hip hop artist and singer out of Sante Fe, New Mexico who goes by the name of Benzo. He has always played music, beginning at the early age of 5. He was born in to a musical background and was always surrounded by music growing up. Both of his parents Michelle and Benito played in a rock band before he was born, with his father playing guitar and mother singing. Ever sense he heard his mother singing and dancing in the kitchen to “Red Red Wine” by UB40 while holding a half a glass of dark red wine he knew he could sing, because she sang so well. Music is what Benzo is made of, and it was always his destiny. Benzo started out playing drums in punk bands, than got in to heavy metal, than eventually evolved in to the Hip Hop genre. He was in a Green Day cover band called ‘Scapegoat’, than a local Hip Hop group called ‘Line Of Site’ in early high school. He has played all over the state of New Mexico and won a lot of talent competitions. Most notably he was King of The Mic winner 3 years in a row from 2010-2013, performed at the House of Blues in Chicago ILL. In 2012 and won the universities ‘Who’s Got Talent’ competition in 2013 in NMHU. While doing all of this Benzo is a full time graduate student and a father of a beautiful 3 year old girl named Kylie. He’s a brother of 3 younger brothers and one stubborn sister. From the words of Benzo “I absolutely love my family, love the outdoors, but more importantly, I love what music has done for me.
