简介

As on previous releases, Matt Anderson’s arrangements showcase the The Endeavors’ strengths, creating dynamic songs propelled by Stasia Cymes’ passionate vocals. The Endeavors push forward on “Highway To Me” experimenting with multiple voices, effect-heavy guitar lines, rhythmic texture and condensed pop creations. Opening “Highway to Me” is the driving, single-ready “Bad Behavior.” Anderson’s single note guitar lines are supported by pulsing and textural bass. Stasia’s vocals are as strong as ever adding a powerful growl as she sings, “Bad Behavior brings nothing good/ Bad behavior it never does,” in the fist-pumping chorus. With an overt and playful sexuality, The Endeavors display their biggest hooks yet on the instantly catchy “Big Talk.” Stasia taunts, “I like it when you big talk all night,” with a wicked grin in between bouncing guitar riffs again underscored by the rhythmic texture of the bass. Arguably the best track on the album, “Big Talk” shows The Endeavors are capable of unique content condensed into a three-minute pop song. Stasia’s performance on “Clean Break” is the most inspired, passionate and powerful we’ve heard. Musically we see both guitar and bass step out for solos amidst seemingly difficult subject matter. Title track “Highway” is a subtilely infectious rocker. Built on the rhythm sections’ best performance, the bass and drums lock together creating a unique interplay often unnoticed underneath Anderson’s sparse single-note guitar melody. Falling perfectly into chorus, the band propels Stasia as she sings, “You’re mine, baby/my kind of disaster.” It’s a pulsing sing-a-long chorus with each voice lining up in perfect rhythm and meter. Moving bass lines and pensive guitar articulate Stasia’s internal struggle on the epic closer, “Highwire.” Stasia’s lyrical simplicity and haunting delivery grant “Highwire” a greater level of nuance and depth. In a relatable situation she repeats with growing intensity, “Why do I do it?” trying to make sense of inability to let go of an unreceptive lover. As on previous releases,The Endeavors always strive to develop their sound and are now boasting a talented keyboardist who has already pushed The Endeavors live shows to new places. Already planning a new record, The Endeavors continue to bring another dimension to pop rock with their mastery of layering musical ideas, creating interesting arrangements to compliment an already powerful voice.
