Unlike many of the artist's earlier works, the synthesizer is barely heard on Aspect, with the whole album being dominated by the rhythmic tones the piano. This most elegant of instruments provides the flowing melodies, the pulse of the beat, whilst the cyclic patterns hold an altogether separate structure surrounding the music and bringing it to life in way that neither pure melody, nor pure serialism can achieve by themselves.
