By comparison, this is a straightforward singer-songwriter session, with simple and refined instrumentation, spare and confessional songs and vocals that are elegant and emotionally precise, communicating their message without going overboard. Still, the talent that was on display on Nedelle's earlier works is just as evident on The Locksmith Cometh, even if it travels along a different path. Nedelle conveys a rich palate of thoughts and feelings with her vocal performances here, expressing a wounded neediness on "Every Single Spring", catty jealousy on "Your Fiancé" and a girlish curiosity about life's mysteries on "Spell The Night Right". Nedelle's songs are every bit as strong as her performances, marrying evocative melodies to lyrics that tell their stories artfully but never lose their recognizable human touch. And Nedelle handled the recording and production herself on The Locksmith Cometh, and the results are very fine indeed, giving this music the intimacy it needs while still allowing the music enough room to move. Nedelle's third album is short, sweet and to the point; it's a deliberately modest work from a major talent, and the album's scale works to the advantage of the artist and her music.
