简介
Dayton Ohio's LAB PARTNERS formed in 1998 by guitarist/vocalist MIKE SMITH and keyboardist AMY SMITH, the band originally featured lead guitarist KEVIN PARRETT (A Ten O'Clock Scholar) and drummer MATT SCHULZ, who has been a longtime collaborator with Mike Smith dating back from their days together in Honeyburn. Schulz went on to perform full-time duty with Enon. Today Lab Partners' drum work is handled by TODD CARLL (Ultra Vega, Kommandoz) and features veteran rocker MIKE VOLK on lead guitar (also formerly of Honeyburn and Let's Crash). Lab Partners also serve as one of the few bands not to include a bass player, with Amy Smith's keyboards and sequencer work uniquely filling in the low end of the rock spectrum. Lab Partners have been fairly prolific over the last several years, participating in three compilations and putting out three full-length albums. Their last release, Daystar, really put them on the map with national press and radio really hopping on board. Spin Magazine called them the “Band To Watch” and Under The Radar Magazine and Pitchfork Media talked the band up. Tours with The Warlocks, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and US Maple also helped win the band some great new friends as they criss-crossed the country on tour. Their 4th album “Wicked Branches” was released in North America in July 2005 to rave reviews. Their new E.P., "Keep Quiet” is out now. Three of the five songs are taken from their forthcoming album due out in late 2007. If this EP is anything to go by, Lab Partners new album is going to be something pretty special. The band have been touring hard over the past year sharing stages with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Kinski, Mark Gardner (ex Ride), Black Angels and The Warlocks among many others. The band were also big hit at this year’s SXSW Music Conference in Austin, playing on the same stage as Dead Meadow, The High Dials and The Black Angels side project Viet Minh.
