In 1736, Schloss Leopoldskron was built as a prestigious residence of Prince Archbishop of Salzburg. Count Laktanz became later on the very first patron of Leopold Mozart and the young Wolfgang Amadeus. At the present, Leopoldskron is not only considered to be the "birth place" of the world's most prestigious music festival, "Salzburger Festspiele," through the artistic partnership that the celebrated artist Max Reinhardt, poet Hugo v. Hofmannsthal and composer Richard Strauss developed back in the 1920's; but it is also the venue, where the popular movie "Sound of Music" was filmed in 1964.
