PLUS021 features the sounds of Jordan Bernardo. Hailing from the Windy City, Jordan channels the underground vibes of Chicago throughout this EP. Starting off with the moody Lt. Dan (Stormy Night Mix), Jordan creates a space that will have you lost in the groove with a touch of acid to balance out the atmospherics. The EPs title track, MYMM has an infectious low end groove that locks in you. Before you realize it the chords arrive creating a gentle bed for the raw drums to sit in. The baseline is thick and warm, never screaming for attention but definitely making its presence felt. With a perfect sense of timing, the synth lead comes in with out warning. A playful jam session, the lead mines its own business while the chords and bassline continue on, never losing their course. The Path (6am Mix) is Jordan at his most dynamic. With a broken kick pattern and dubbed out synths to start, its builds up the anticipation and tension, never letting up even after the baseline comes in. With a soft, rubbery synth in the back round complimenting the dubbed out synth stabs, The Path takes the kick away and starts to open up the filter cutoff. With the cacophony of sounds building and building, it slowly starts to fade away, just leaving the raw bass and kick with the sustained pad maintaing the tension. The track never releases that tension nor does it ever have to. Kicking off the remix round we have Unfug hailing all the way from Germany. Unfug strips down Lt. Dan to its core groove and starts to add his own flavor while maintaining a consistent color palette. Simple and yet effective, the track grooves along until Unfugss signature guitars come in, adding a nice gentle touch while creating a balance to the raw groove. Jason Bay is back at it again, this time taking MYMM and giving it the Late Night Affair treatment. He takes the simple synth riff and creates a whole new space around it. Taking notes from the original vocal samples, he twists them in his own image and makes them upfront and present. With the strings and brass creating a bed, this track has a driving groove while still being spacious. Alejandro Romero is back after a little break, and his return couldnt have been better received. His 3am Remix of The Path is what we have come to expect from Alejandro. Solid, spacious grooves with light atmospherics to help bring the whole track together. Where Jordan creates an unparalleled level of tension and energy in The Path, Alejandro takes a different approch with a spacious, laid back vibe and a bassline that sleazes its way through out the track. We couldnt think of a better way to wrap up PLUS021, a very dynamic and yet consistent release start to finish.
