It was 11 pm when I stopped by the studio. I arrived to an excited control room where my dad, Everton Paul, and his engineer, Shane Shaky Forrest had just finished listening to a version of “Ring of Fire”. He played it for me and said, “This would sound nice in a reggae version, no?” I said, “Yeah, it would”. He said, “We should do a recording of it”. I said, “Yeah, we should”. He just kept looking at me until I realized what he meant. “You mean now?!”. He said, “Yeah”. So Shane grabbed the bass, dad got behind the drums, I printed out the lyrics and got behind the mic and we laid the barebones of the track. After weeks of arranging and adding instrumentation and harmonies, it became a track that turns the original version upside down and, at the same time, does it proud.
