The Adagio Trio was founded in 1985 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Kathryn Daniels, Michael Daniels, and Linda Grieser, the founding members, perform regularly for recitals, religious services, weddings, and receptions. In 1990 Michael took the position of Co-Principal Cellist with the Virginia Symphony, and the Daniels moved to Norfolk, Virginia. The trio continues to work together, and released its first CD Stillpoint in 1997. Over 7,000 copies of Stillpoint have been sold in the Hampton Roads, VA and Cincinnati areas. The overwhelming response to this CD led the trio to create their second recording Sanctuary in 1999. In October 2002, the trio released their third CD Winter Gift, a Christmas Cd. Evensong, Adagio Trio's fourth recording, is a celebration of making music together for twenty years. In 2008, the trio recorded Celtic Heart, which is their first Celtic CD.The trio has now sold over 48,000 copies of their CDs with no distribution! The Adagio Trio, consisting of harp, flute, and cello, performs a mixture of classical, religious, and folk music. The unique combination of instruments provides a fitting compliment for meditation or relaxation. The trio provides the listener with an opportunity to experience a sense of tranquility and spiritual renewal through reflective selections. The selections on their CDs are primarily well-known pieces such as Pachelbel's Canon, Danny Boy, Ave Maria, Shenandoah, Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring, and Simple Gifts. The trio has been praised throughout the local media. Raymond Jones of the Virginia Daily Press calls Stillpoint "an enchanting disc not to be missed." JoAnn Falletta, Virginia Symphony and Buffalo Philharmonic music director, says the CDs are " a treasure of lyricism and tranquility." Tom Robotham of Portfolio Weekly calls the CDs "terrific, from start to finish." Janelle Gelfand of the Cincinnati Enquirer says that the trio performs these "sparkling arrangements with precision and attractive expression."
