All the tracks on this EP are songs that are written and composed by Gary Stanton. The songs vary from love, heartbreak, comedy and politics. Its a diverse piece of work that reaches a broad audience of country music listeners, so everyone in the "deep southern" culture can relate the honesty or the lyrics and the different sound of the tracks. The first track entitled "Katie" is love ballad about my parents, about wherever life will take them it doesn't matter as long as there together. Track 2 entitled "Hey Darlin'" is the story of a past relationship that fizzled out. Even though they aren't together there is still a since of love and care for that person and how when they see one another out, there minds go back to the times they had. The third track entitled "Treestand". It is a "down home" rocking song about finding that girl who can endure the life of the south by a good ole boy's demands. The final track and also the title of the EP is entitled "The American Dream" is a very political song on how the world has gone by the way-side from a conservative's view and how you can't take away freedoms and punish me for doing what a person is "suppose" to be living.
