简介
Having been offered an unreleased Prince tune to record, Van Gogh returned to the studio to record their 4th album. Entitled "Van Gogh" (after the aforementioned Prince song), this album features some drum loops and samples, while still retaining the qualities that make up the unique musical vision of the band's creative mainstays, Robby & Ricky Heisner. The Van Gogh album (like all the band's albums) is stylisticly diverse , yet creatively cohesive. From the classic pop of "Simple Cinderella" and "My Telescope", to the hard rock of "All That Glitters" and "Van Gogh", to the broodingly psychedelic "The World in a Nutshell", to the gospel flavored "Lift Me Up", to the power-pop punch of "All the Time in the World" and "Tangled", to the pulsing, noirish intrigue of "Ready, Willing, & Able" -- and then there is the ragtime-polka-bluegrass-jazz-folk concoction of "Maybe" to kill any possibility of this album being easily catagorized. One reviewer wrote: "I wasn't quite prepared for the diversity of sound included in their self-titled CD... Psychedelia, rock'n'roll, pop, funk ... it's all here. ... An intricately produced CD, Van Gogh combines electronic and acoustic drums, guitars, numerous keyboards, sound effects and vocals to create a very full sound. This is music formed with attention to detail - very fine detail indeed."
