Mike Lennon's 9th cd "Southwest Beat" 15 tracks of Southwest Sunshine Pop recorded in sunny Phoenix , Arizona 2012. Sounding like a Southwestern Beatles , Beach Boys , Byrds , Association type band , the cd comes from three differant recording sessions . The lead off track "So Lonely Over You" comes from Mike's sessions for " Save The Earth " in 2003 . It was first released on The Psychobilly Rodeo Band cd "WIP" in 2002 and has been remixed for inclusion on this cd . "Everytime I See You" written in 2010 is a love song with a Byrds like Rickenbacker riff over an Association backing track with happy psychadelic vocals , it sets the tone for this cd . "Baby Gurl" the single from this collection is a glorious piece of Southwest Sunshine Pop with genre defining harmonies . " I Can't Count The Days " a bossa Nova with a Roy Orbison like vocal another Southwestern Sunshine Pop stunner . " What's Wrong With You " is one of five tracks recorded in 2007 (with more overdubs in 2012) during the " No Time To Rock ! " sessions , with Hammond Organ and gang like vocals . This track rocks ! "Change It" sounding like the" Help " era Beatles with a tejano beat sums up the feel of this cd . " First Thing In The Morning " from 2007 is a minor key bluegrass tune written in the style of Byrds frontman Gene Clark's work in Dillard and Clark . " If You'll Come Back To Me " is up next another fine southwestern styled pop song with a Roy Orbison like vocal , it's one of the cds highlights ! " I Don't Know " is a latino Beatles rocker that picks up the pace and sets the stage for " Away From You " with it's Brian Wilson falsetto and James Bondish backing track it's another track from the " No Time To Rock ! " sessions . It's back to the Association for inspiration on 2011's " So It Begins " vaguely reminiscent of a Burt Bachrach chord progression through a Southwestern prism with a great Rickenbacker solo . " Never In My Life " from 2007 is a Buck Owens type sprightly shuffle that brings us to " In My Dreams " another minor key c&w tune in the style of Gene Clark that was written way back in 1991 in Greenwich Village for Mike's seminal band the Psychobillys and finally recorded in the studio in 2011 . " Tears Tomorrow " a bluegrass pop song from 2011 with a sad lyric wed to a happy beat another favorite of Mike's . The cd closes with " Goodbye little Darling " from 2007 a modern cowboy song with great harmonies and Rickenbacker riff . 'Southwest Beat is one of Mike's finest releases. Mike sings and plays all instruments and it was mastered by Russ Reiter at cinema sound studios in Phoenix Arizona September 2012 .
