"Anagrams" features acclaimed percussionist Jesse Stewart in musical dialogue with baritone saxophone virtuoso David Mott. Mott’s playing crosses the boundaries of style, form, and content, incorporating elements of jazz, creative improvised music, new music, and world influences. He is one of the pioneers of using circular breathing, multiphonics, and other extended techniques on the baritone saxophone in order to create a rich tapestry of polyphonic sound. He has worked with an astonishing array of musicians including Gil Evans, Stevie Wonder, Ray Anderson, Gerry Hemingway, Mark Dresser, Robert Dick, Ernst Reijseger, Wadada Leo Smith, and many others. Jesse Stewart has similarly performed and recorded with many musical luminaries including Pauline Oliveros, Hamid Drake, and William Parker. In 2012, he was honoured with the “Instrumental Album of the Year” JUNO award (the Canadian equivalent of a Grammy) for his work with the genre-defying trio Stretch Orchestra.

Together, Mott and Stewart have created a duo recording that celebrates sonic exploration and musical improvisation. There are no overdubs or edits. The listener hears what the musicians heard as they created the music together. In his poetic liner notes to "Anagrams," visionary NYC bassist and multi-instrumentalist William Parker writes: “This is some of the most beautiful music ever recorded. The music inspires one to shout about it from rooftops all over the world. ...David Mott and Jesse Stewart are telling stories mostly about little things that are gigantic in scope—things like hope, kindness, friendship, improvisation, truth. Words and sentences are replaced with textures, timbre, rhythms, tones and melodic shapes that reconfirm both tradition and creation.”
