Al Tanner was born 1930, In San Antonio, Texas. From a musical family of pianists, he got his start at a neighbor\'s house where he learned to play Blues and Jazz. He played saxophone in his early years In 1953 Al moved to Oakland, California, where he still resides. In 55 years in the bay area Al immersed himself in Jazz study of the masters such as Horace Silver, Art Blakey and John Coltrane. From this he developed a musical training manual for the study of Jazz theory as well as many, many community efforts to educate outside the school systems with after school recreation center big bands and combos DeFermery Park, Mosswood Park, and as a \"jazz icon\" Al Tanner has played in all the now defunct Jazz clubs such as\" Mr. Majors\",\" Maxine\'s\", \"Ivey\'s\",\"The Backyard \"and the still thriving \"Lady Esters Orbit room\" and many, many east-bay jazz clubs. Al thanks God and his mother, Louise Hardaman. His music features some up and coming young stars. Mark Wright on trumpet,(beautiful be-bop style) and the smooth Jennifer Jones on tenor sax. Mark Lignell on drums( doing the Art Blakey thing!) The second half has different band members and was recorded live. Al wanted the noise to capture his night club vibe. It features the great George Alexander on trumpet, the dynamic Steve Heckman on tenor sax, the young Mike Jones on bass and the Great drummer Mike Clark!(of the \"HEAD HUNTERS\") Mike Clark earned a bonus track for his outstanding solo work on \"Sportin Life\" the last cut!
