简介

“The One You Call” is an album characterized by a struggle between a reliance on brotherhood in Christ and on Christ as the actual source and center of that brotherhood. The tracks fluctuate between calling out for the support of brothers in a time of need and calling out for Christ Himself. A brotherhood represents a unique bond between individuals and such a bond makes it is easy to rely exclusively on the brotherhood itself for support. This is a beautiful and powerful relationship that is sacred and unique, but it should never be mistaken for the role of Christ as our provider and Savior. Understanding that Christ is the source of brotherhood is vital to respecting the relationship and our roles within it. In other words, the brotherhood is an incredible family and network of support, but it never takes the place of Christ as our sustaining foundation. Both the value of a brotherhood and the temptation to bypass Christ and call to our brothers first are characterized by songs such as “Brother” by NeedtoBreathe, “Hidden Away” by Josh Groban, “Run to You” by Pentatonix, and “Marchin On” by OneRepublic. These songs are paralleled, however, by songs characterized by a letting go and a calling out to God above all. Examples of these songs include “It is Finished” by Jimmy Needham, “Heaven Song” by Phil Wickham, “Fix my Eyes” by for King & Country, and “Start a Fire” by Unspoken. The juxtaposition of these two elements of a Christian brotherhood through song represents the true struggle of every child of God to respect and value the life and the resources that they have been given, but never to let those blessings take the place of our Creator as our ultimate provider and foundation.
