Let me explain. Full Service is known throughout town for its heavy and boisterous-yet harmonious-sound. Though mellow moments routinely make their way into the set, we play a very loud and thunderous live show. And even when we do play "the softer side", as we call it, rarely do we play the songs that are featured on "Irie Love," our second full-length album . The instrumentation on this album is simple: acoustic guitar (by brothers Bone and Hoag), congas (by Hoag), and vocals (by Hoag). It's the sound of Full Service's back porch, where we strum and drum and Bonesaw grills the chicken. "Irie Love" could also be called "Now Our Name Makes Sense". We serve a full platter of music. It's not rock music. It's not reggae music. It's not heavy metal music, it's not folk music. It's just music, seen? It's produced by Jon Millican, frontman for the locally popular "drunk rock" band Freebleeder. We met Jon through our involvement with the Austin Indie Alliance, and our bands play almost every show together. With a two-month summer tour of the Eastern United States kicking off July 6th at Antone's, we are hoping to take ALL sides of our music to the listeners. "Hooked In": Music-Bone, Lyrics--Hoag Our next door neighbor disappeared into a rehab clinic one day because of a heroin habit. Who woulda thought? "Ghosts of Gettysburg": Music-Bone, Lyrics-Hoag. So named because the riff sounds civil war bluesy. About a guy who leaves his family for a long trip away, but he never makes it back. "Bad News": Music-Bone, Lyrics-Hoag. I have no idea what this song is about. "Irie Love" Music/ Lyrics-Hoag. Story about a kid. Stuck in the mud. Then he finds a girl. Happy ending. "Beautiful Taste" Music-Bone, Lyrics-Hoag. Not just another sad love song. But who cares if it is... "Lizards on the Tree" Music/ Lyrics-Hoag. Legend has it-again-that Hoag wrote this with their boys cat Arwen one day while he and Arwen were having lunch outside in the greenbelt near our home. Arwen has since passed away. That's all I can say. And also that Hoag loves peanut butter and jelly. "Pizza Song" Music-Bone, Lyrics-Hoag. What it's like working at a pizza place as a daytime shift manager. I hate this song. It reminds me so much of work. Nothing about love in this song. "Girls" Music/Lyrics-Hoag. A summary of Hoag's love history. "For Seasons" Music-Bone. Bone wrote this with a broken heart. Kelly was her name. "Love is Requited" Music-Bone, Lyrics-Hoag. I repeat, Bone wrote this with a broken heart. Kelly was her name. Somehow Hoag ended up being responsible for representing Bone's anguish lyrically. "Restless" Music/ Lyrics-Hoag. Written late one night when doubt was keeping Hoag up. Redemption and sleep is eventually found. And that's irie. "Pulse" Music-Bone, Lyrics-Hoag. Back when Bone was a teacher, he had a student who needed rescuing - from her friends, her parents, school, and life. Bone wrote this song for her. Hoag wrote words about something different. Being at the beach and thinking about a girl he misses and how that feeling gives birth to a song. Love love love. I am noticing a theme. "5:42" Music-Bone, Lyrics-Hoag. Originally Bone wrote this for the middle school students he used to teach and performed it during the farewell ceremony they had for him. Not a dry eye in the room, so goes the rumor.
