No doubt the late Sylvester, who surfaced later, copied lead singer Tony Washington's phrasings. "Shoe Shoe Shine" is one of the best Ashford/Simpson songs; it also turned out to be the D.C. natives' most popular record, with the exciting "Leave It Alone" a close second. A second lead with a good tenor provided a good foil for Washington's cloud-high vocals on most selections. A must for vocal-group fanatics.
