简介
“Disco Lover" is a back-in-the-day celebration of dance/disco with a soulful funky twist. Written and produced by multi-gold/platinum-selling producer, Randy Muller, with backing tracks by the Skyy rhythm section (with Muller on keys and percussion), Diva Joyce debuts with a sensual feel-good anthem that's bound to get one's inner party started. Originally recorded in 1978 right below NYC's legendary Studio 54 at Soundworks Studios, "Disco Lover" reeks of the rhythmic zeitgeist of the days of Saturday Night Fever melded with a Betty Wright "Cleanup Woman" vibe. "I remember cutting this track. There was a lot of excitement in the studio because the guys had to learn the song from scratch, since I usually don't like musicians getting too familiar with the music I record in advance. I find they tend to get too comfortable and they just don't seem to lock or groove as they would playing the track for the very first time," Muller recalls. "As a unit we were used to playing funk and soul. In fact, if you listen to the track, you would notice that there are two basic grooves going on: a funk and soul-laden hook and A-section, and a straight-up disco-fied bridge or B-section. But the disco thing was relatively new and exciting at the time and by the end of the session we just knew we had something amazingly special." However, with Muller's busy schedule writing, producing and arranging for several acts, the "Disco Lover" master tape was put into storage, unreleased, with its production incomplete. It would not be until the fall of 2011, thirty-five years later, that this gem was spotted and plucked from the Muller vault. In February of 2012 horns and percussion were added to complete this work. Add the wizardry of Grammy award-winning engineer Dave Darlington, a spicy diva and a bold progressive remix and, as they say, the rest is history. This record has been more than three decades in the making, the beat is strong, the groove is electric and, like a fine brew, it seems to have gotten only better with time. “Disco Lover” takes you back-to-the-future; to a progressive, classic funk and soul/disco paradise. Enjoy!
