简介

Ryan Maguire Biography “WHY CAN’T WE JUST DANCE ANYMORE!?” screams singer/songwriter Ryan Maguire to a parting lover in his brand new single Want Me- a pelvis thrusting rock n’ roll gem reminiscent of the Kinks and B52’s. As Ryan so pointedly acknowledges, music is meant for dancing, to entertain and to spark the imagination of an unsuspecting listener. This is precisely what he accomplishes with his high-energy rock music, whether it be from the bluesy Bullet, an ode to his bank-robbing grandfather, to Space Baby, a chronicle of the interstellar explorations of a helpless baby, or the sweet delicate strummings of the romantic There for You- the imagination of the listener is always stretched, and Ryan’s knack for catchy melodies keeps you singing along, for days after. With two released music videos, five professionally recorded songs and nearly 60,000 views on his Youtube channels, Ryan Maguire is a songwriter and performer on the rise. His sense of humour mixed with his refined songwriting craft have guided him through the Toronto music scene over the past four years, playing with various bands until recently breaking out on his own. Blogger Let Them Eat Vinyl describes his earliest work as “super-catchy” and “a whimsical up-beat pop extravaganza”. Since then Ryan has grown as an artist, being featured on Trent University Radio and working closely with professional session players, with the aim to move forward every day to bring his songs and show to a wider audience. Starting out as an eager teenage boy with more feeling than could be articulated, his direction was completely rearranged while busking through the west coast of Ireland. There he came upon one of the most beautiful sights he’d ever seen, one that to this day haunts his waking dreams. She made him see the world like he never had before, and falling like a pile of bricks Ryan was tossed into a new form of expression, like ammunition for his growing ambition. On returning to Toronto, he dashed to the writing desk to finish his first songs. They spurred from his imagination along with dreams of love. It was early 2010, and among these songs were Don’t Wanna Think About It and Part The Sea- both of which can be heard on Reverbnation, and are downloadable for free on the Ryan Maguire Facebook page. It was then time to take the Toronto music scene by storm. And this he did, assembling first his band of neighbourhood musicians under the banner ‘Natural Static’, later to be known as Hot to the Touch. They played many wild nights at Rancho Relaxo and fought hard, winning a Battle of the Bands at the Velvet Underground in 2010 which allowed them to make their first professional recording of The Single. This included the songs mentioned above. Over the next three years many changes and exciting events occurred, both positive and negative. They rocked numerous university gigs, including Humber College and University of Guelph, they were featured on the Wallace an Emmerson Radio Show, they were reviewed by ‘Let Them Eat Vinyl’ after their performance at the Mod Club, and most notably, they released their first music video for The Exam Song! It garnered over 10,000 views over the course of April 2012. This was no easy task for an independant music video that cost them the price of a pizza! Ryan’s insistence on turning every challenge into an opportunity to do something different, and trusting imagination had brought this band into good standings within the Toronto indie-rock music scene. But every band goes through growing pains, some not pulling through. Unfortunately, this was the case for Hot to the Touch. After four years of numerous members switching, the stress of unwavering commitment to the music, and as long-time friendships were put on the line, things built up to the tipping point, where Ryan had to call the band to a halt. The winter of 2013 was a very cold winter. But the sun would shine again. It was around this time that Ryan and producer and college buddy Francis Desrosiers started their work together. It was greatly due to his help that Ryan was pulled from the ashes of his former band, and thrown immediately into the release of his second music video Sunrise, a folk-rock number telling the story of a young castaway floating out to sea on the house he grew up in. Recorded at Humber Studios and mastered by João Carvalho (Lights, Barenaked Ladies, Bahamas) it rang in over 1000 views the month it was released on Youtube. Also mastered by João was much anticipated single Want Me. Featured on RAS Trent Radio, 92.7 CFF FM (Trent Uni Radio) it is scheduled to be released this weekend, July 28th, 2013. Romantically and coincidentally so, this will be a week before Ryan leaves for Ireland, to reunite with the love that was lit four years ago; one that runs parallel with the struggle and climb of his early musical career. So now, armed with two brand new singles, a music video, a committed Youtube following and a heart full of ambition this up-and-comer is pushing through to make his music well known. To promote this Ryan encourages all future fans to connect with him on his Facebook page, where every one of his songs are available for free download. Of the belief that “Noone should be restricted from having my music, no matter what their situation is. Music is like water.” He offers the tunes as well as the itunes link, for those who are able and choose to support new artists. Constantly refining his craft of songwriting by learning new instruments and new ways of expressing the stories of his imagination, it won’t be easy to pinpoint what exactly will come next from Ryan Maguire, but rest assured, it’s going to be exciting, it’s going to make you sing, and it’s going to be fun. As Ryan so often states “Music is fun. If you’re not having fun, you’re doing it wrong! That’s what I love so much about rock and roll.” At this point he is excited yet uncertain as to what the future will hold. Even so, he’s packed up his guitar and is rockin’ down this long twisty road, while the sun above him shines brightly.
