简介
by Rolf SemprebonVolcano the Bear gained much more name recognition among experimental music connoisseurs when this album was released on Nurse With Wound's United Dairies label in 1999. Certainly Volcano the Bear have been compared to NWW and a number of other avant rock bands, and fortunately they throw enough different influences (industrial, post-industrial, Krautrock, drone, collage, improvisational, surrealism, folk) into the blender that what comes out is not too much like anything else. The group uses an abundance of electronics and effects, as well as many different acoustic instruments, from violin and accordion to horns and lots of odd percussion devices. In typical Volcano the Bear fashion, many of the tracks are segued together in a quirky mosaic that drifts from one strange space to the next. Even though the album was recorded over a three-and-a-half-year period, between August 1995 and January 1999, and in several different studios, it's more coherent than their earlier LP-only release, Yak Folks Y'Are, and quite strong throughout.
