My style of songwriting began to move to a bit more 'catch-you-more-quickly' thing in the late 1980s. I was still at home with the quality and integrity of my earlier work, but I began to notice that it seemed to reveal itself a bit more slowly. I was also paying attention to some of the music that enlivened me when I was quite young - the whole British Invasion experience, and i began to feel even more freed up as a person.

The title is illustrative of the undulating human experience, albeit with a bit of an 'endangered' vibe. In many ways it was the beginning of my experiencing life as a combination of toiling and softening, and the revelation that perhaps fear and control are the quintessential stiltings of authentic life. The orchestration is enhanced with some electric instruments, and the fidelity is somewhat more obvious.
