简介
'As the old cock crows...' A nice Irish saying meaning 'like father like son' (Dutch: 'de appel valt niet ver van de boom'). Rob van Bavel (1965, father) comes from a musical family; his father was a respected classical pianist/educator and there was always a lot of music in the house. At a young age (10) Rob decided to choose a life in music, at first classical music, but at the age of 15 he chose a definite career in Jazz. Sebastiaan van Bavel (1992, son) also comes from a similar musical environment. At the age of 10, he had already recorded one tune with his father on 'Piano Grand Slam' (the new Rob van Bavel Trio) and was invited by Hein vd Geyn to play with trombonist Conrad Herwig at the North Sea Jazzfestival 2007, and with tenor saxophonist Steve Grossman in 2008 at the 'Gouvy Jazzfestival' Together Rob & Sebastiaan had some occasional performances as a piano-duo (at the Bechstein center in 2007 & with Big Band Blast) but now they are a serious piano-duo! The repertoire consists of Jazz Standards (Rollins, Coltrane), Classical music (Scriabin, Debussy, Fauré) but mainly original compositions written for this Duo, with various influences from minimal music, world-music, modern jazz, gospel and more..
