简介
There are those who live a conventional 9-5 existence, happy with their white picket fence, their "good job," and their quiet life. Every night they lie down in their comfortable beds and sleep, resting so that they can do it all again the next day. There are others though, those who gather their rest while the sun is high, as if locked into another world. The night is their refuge, their workplace, their home. Their dreams serve as their guides. They do not desire the conventional existence that so many strive for. They long for something more...something different. This is Daysleeper, formed in dreams and fueled by a restless search for beauty and creativity . Born on a dance floor, Daylseeper sprung from a mutual love of dance music shared by vocalist/songwriter Sarah Tancer and composer/producer Michael Reid. With Reid's background in film and television scores (boasting clients such as AMC, Discovery, and VH1) and Tancer's natural performance style, stemming from her training as a classical actor and her work in dance theater, Daysleeper was a logical next step for both. Reid and Tancer have come together to meld soulful, savvy songwriting with dreamy electronic grooves. Daysleeper recently released their debut self-titled CD; a richly textured journey through various territories of electronica and dance music that never loses sight of the impact of striking lyircs and memorable hooks. Drawing influences such as Everything But The Girl, Morcheeba, Goldfrapp and Annie Lennox , to name a few, Daysleeper blends the digital and the organic with sweet and aurally sumptuous results. Welcoming you to the record with the tortured R&B sound of "Ready," Daysleeper is an album both unique and warmly familiar. "I hope that this album communicates something relatable but also something distinct and sharply focused," says Tancer. The songs flow seamlessly, weaving in and out of various subgenres with style and substance. Whether it's the inviting dance groove found on "You Got Me Out," the Disco warmth of "Everything," or the melancholy Trip Hop of "Amnesia," the duo are perfectly in step at every turn. "My aim is to write one of those great, powerful songs that resonates with a large audience" explains Tancer. She continues, "I love songs with beautifully stated ideas and emotions that catch you off guard and wake you up" Tancer's voice is mesmerizing throughout the band's debut, leading you around each corner as if purely from instinct. While the music surrounds you, its Tancer's voice, equal parts sexy and commanding, that draws you deep into each song. Her voice is the key to unlocking the mystery. Perhaps it's the intimate lyrical approach that contributes to the timeless atmosphere of Daysleeper's music. Perhaps it's Tancer's warm, soulful, voice, or maybe Reid's near perfect backdrops, whatever it is, it is destined to bait your eardrums.
