All the songs in the Blue Waters CD were inspired by different events in my life. Some recent, some date back to when I was a kid growing up in Downtown Los Angeles. Take a read and find out what each song is all about. Blue Waters (3:47): I wrote this song after taking a trip to Florida. I had a great time over there (except for the humidity). We took a couple of scenic boat tours and I noticed how blue the water looked; hence the name. Wanted to make it out to the Keys but we didn't have time. I hear it is fantastic over there. Maybe one day. I remember one of the boat trips we were on a glass bottom boat. Some of the crew put on scuba gear and went down to feed the fish. So many fish and so many different kinds. On another trip we took a blues cruise: a blues band was on board and we had such a good time, eating, dancing and singing but all I could think about was how blue that water was. BTW, the buffet was bomb!! I Miss You (2:53): One of the reasons I had gone to Florida was to get away. I had broken up with the special someone in my life and just wanted to get away from it all. Six years in a relationship will do that to you. The melody in this song is kinda sad but still pretty which is what this person was about. I knew it had to end which was the sad part but I had learned so much with this person that I only think of the good times we had. She had to move away and I wasn't about to leave Los Angeles. Still brings tears to my eyes when I think about her. Stormi Normi (See You In Hell) (4:28): Stormi Normi is short for Storming Normandie. The boys in the band took a little trip up North to Monterey. Along the way we stopped at a few bars to play and eat and just be boys. I was sitting at a bar when a gentleman approached and asked who I was and what I was doing there. We started talking and it turns out he was in WWII and had been to Normandie. He was an older guy but still had his wits about him. He started telling me about all the stuff he and his buddies went through during the war. We sat for three hours talking about how he saw one guy get his foot blown off in a land mine; how when the planes came overhead they would hide and wait for the right moment to come out shooting and many other incidents. I was so intruiged. All I could think about was the movie 'Saving Private Ryan.' The opening scene is awesome. If you haven't seen it, check it out. They Howl For You (5:16): This song was inspired by a camping trip to Yosemite. When we got there we set up our tents; three of them. When night time fell there was howling from the wolves and coyotes and wouldn't you know it, we only needed one tent! Everyone had crammed into one tent. We would joke, 'they're coming for you, they're coming for you,' and then howl and then start laughing. I don't think anyone got sleep that night. Still Sweet (4:01): Still Sweet is about my music career. Even after playing for so many years and meeting so many fun and different people, it never gets old!! Alone (Out In The Desert) (4:30): This song is about a dark time in my life where it felt like everyone and everything that I cared about was abandoning me. Everywhere I turned there was rejection and hatred and it felt like it would never end. It was like having a great thirst and not being able to find water. Starting To Rain (3:08): The rain brings back memories of when I was little kid growing up with my four siblings and being cooped up at my auntie's house in Ventura, whom I loved dearly. She would go out of her way to make it fun for us kids since we couldn't go out to play. We all learned how to bake, sew, make paper boats and worst of all, clean toilets. Toy Soldier (3:45): This song is dedicated to all our servicemen and women who without, we wouldn't be able to rock the way this great country rocks!! Montecito Burns (3:32): We had gone on one of our many camping trips to Yosemite and had set up camp near a stream. About two hours in, they evacuated everyone because of a brushfire. Now, when I was writing the song, I couldn't come up with a name for it but while I sat in front of the television set trying to think of a name, the Montecito fires of '09 were in full force. Falling In Love (4:12): This song is about the first time I fell in love. She was beautiful (aren't they all?). All I could think about was her. Day and night and when we were together it was just as awesome. I loved everything about her: the way she smelled, the way she laughed, even the way she chewed her food. She moved away to go to school in another state and it took me two years to get over her. Splendor In The Grass (3:07): This song's inspiration stems from a picnic with my special girl at the park that tuned out to be a little more than a picnic.
