Kidneythieves’ Free Dominguez released her third solo album VOLCANO+THE SEA. Fans made a call to action for this album, funding her Kickstarter campaign in a mere 7 days. The success of this campaign and 100% independent-DIY attitude has garnered the type of record that Dominguez has been wanting to make for a decade. VOLCANO+THE SEA is a passionate collection of tracks produced by friend and 2x Grammy winner, J.J. Blair. This record has spawned from Dominguez’s Tenor guitar strumming and collaborating with Ours’ STATIC. The result is Dominguez’s most personal and sonically ambitious album to date. “When STATIC came into the picture as a songwriting partner, his ideas challenged me musically, sonically and lyrically. Then when J.J. took the producer chair, he took these demos and turned them into monsters. I could have never seen this result coming. As a team, we have brought out the best in each other,” Dominguez said. In addition to STATIC, VOLCANO+THE SEA employed the talents of musicians Jimmy Paxson (Stevie Nicks, Alanis Morrissette), Chris Chaney (Jane’s Addiction), Dan Rothchild (Shakira, Heart, Fiona Apple) and Matt Tecu (Rollins Band, Daniel Lanois, Eric Avery) and Zac Rae (keyboardist styles of Lana Del Rey, Fiona Apple, Carina Round). “It is important to let everyone shine with what they do best. If everyone is given wings in the creative process, you will get a magical result—and that is exactly what happened.” Dominguez said. The release of VOLCANO+THE SEA isn’t the only accomplishment ushering Dominguez’s creativity and vocal stylings onto the airwaves. The singer/songwriter is also featured on the top-selling soundtrack of the video game, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. This marks her third contribution to a video game. Other music game credits include the Deus Ex (with character voice) and Final Fantasy franchises.
