This is the second year I've taken part in the RPM Challenge - last year was under the artist name 'jamelo' (until I discovered that it was already in use).. hence zx85 - a play on an inexpensive home computer and my favourite year of pop music. None of this year's songs existed before 1st February - I recorded them in my small home studio, with collaborations from my friends Fiona (cello on "Do I Dare") and Cakefolder (synth arrangement on "Wordgames") and daughter Eleanor (viola on "mamil" and vocals on "Just a Simulation"). The songwriting was mainly a commentary on modern life, with some autobiographical elements. I consider this the culmination (so far, at least) of 36 years of writing music, from winning a carol competition at primary school to recording my 'difficult second album'. I'll leave it to you to decide whether or not my writing style has improved...
