“Love Like a Symphony,” the first solo release from lead singer and songwriter David Spencer, of the now defunct college rock band SpencerAcuff, is a melodic rock record with one simple message: “Use your gifts to love and inspire others more than yourself.” After three albums in six years, Spencer left the band to pursue a new direction – a direction that would serve as the catalyst for “Love ... .” He married his girlfriend. He followed her to Nashville. He setup his own studio. It is a story of the orchestration of all his loves, which could not help but overflow into his music. “Brace yourself,” Spencer says with his signature grin and chuckle, “but there’s just a lot of love songs on there. The biggest lesson I’ve learned from my marriage is to love other people before yourself. That idea will punch you in the face every day. That’s where ‘Love Like a Symphony’ was born.” While it was tough leaving his hometown of Chapel Hill, NC, where he forged his musical talent, his new surroundings in Music City allow for collaboration with true professionals in their fields. Ben Shive, keyboardist for Dave Barnes and Matt Wertz, produced “Love... ” along with Spencer, and David Henry (Guster, Josh Rouse, REM) also contributed to some production and mixing work. To his credit, Spencer has played hundreds of shows including the Hard Rock Cafe in Texas and the Apollo Theater in Harlem. He has shared the stage with bands such as Better Than Ezra, Josh Kelley, Jars of Clay and Will Hoge, as well as signed a sponsorship contract with BOSE Corporation.
