简介
Below are the album notes from the original 1980 vinyl releases of Meant to be as written by Legendary LA Radio Disc Jockey Jim Gosa (RIP) Meant to be....The title itself tells you all you have to know about this album. Relax in your favorite chair and let the music swirl in your mind like the finest Cabernet you've ever tasted. Meant to be....an album.......an event......a celebration of music by musicians that love what they do, and do what they love....namely play the finest Latin jazz you will ever hear. In no other area of music has the curse of non commerciality been more of a barrier to a recording contract then in Jazz. Because of this, a trend has developed in the recent years of Music. Performers who were not blessed by a major label contract because they were not sufficiently "commercial" started looking for another route to reach their audiences. People who wanted to create their music and an atmosphere not dominated by corporate concerns and constraints began to produce and market their own albums. This album by David troncoso is more or less the result of that Trend. Bassist David Troncoso and his collaborators on this album belong to that cadre of professional musicians who, because of their virtuosity and versatility, are called upon to perform in a vast variety of musical situations. Above and beyond their skills and abilities which keep them gainfully employed, these are musicians who are also compelled to explore and express their own individual artistic statements as well. Such are these musicians who have come together to inspire one another's creativity and the music of this album. Eddie Cano is a veteran pianist whose command of the keyboard is legendary. David calls him "my musical father", and says, "Eddie has encouraged me and taught me so much, he is an inspiration and sometimes a severe Taskmaster driving me to reach my own potential." When talking about pianist Joanne grauer David escalates into paeans of praise. Describing her as a "genius the world has yet to discover. Whose musicianship is so deeply ingrained that her playing just seems to flow effortlessly and as naturally as breathing." "Aaron Ballesteros is so exciting." David says of his "Compadre", "he is a hurricane a percussion." Even as he keeps a firm hand on the beat he seems to have two or three other hands to keep up a swirl of counter rhythms and punctuation. "As hard as we worked to get the music right, that actually turned out to be the easiest part", David recalls about the rocky road to getting his own album produced. there was a lot of unchartered Shoals to navigate through mixing, mastering, pressing artwork, financing, and all of the hard core business aspects of putting out an album. Sometimes they seem almost insurmountable obstacles to overcome. But patience and perseverance Triumph Again. David hung in and the end result of his tenacity is at last in the grooves of this album. And although it's not a major label product make no mistake about it this is Major Music by Major Musicians. All the disappointments and discouraging words are forgotten and the music revels in the joy of high-level creativity. That of course was the whole idea in the first place.
