简介

To label Don Jack simply as a songwriter is falling rather short of the mark. Composing his first piece of music aged 6 he would go on to conduct the school orchestra only 3 years later, performing Albert Ketelbey's famous 'In A Persian Market', ensuring a National music award for his school - the first of many. Around that time, Don became a regular young performer on the UK music scene with school chums Ian (Jumbo) Huntly and Tommy Laird in the band 'Floodlight'. Later, during his art college years, as drummer with the rock band Marco Polo, he would become used to demands of larger venues. It may be true to say, every milestone he has reached to date has come from a concentrated draw on his impressive breadth of knowledge and inner passion for performing his art. During a 3 year stint as singer/drummer with the house band 'Candy', at the famous 'Chequers' night club, he enjoyed a taste of fame storming the Radio Clyde Charts with Burt Bacharach's 'Please Stay'. When keyboard player Kenny Duncan left the band, it was with the new line up (Don ..boards, Douglas Gillespie on bass and now Dave Plues on guitar) that Candy would enjoy international acclaim. Regularly in demand for appearances at The Gleneagles Hotel and La Manga Club on the Costa Blanca, they would often share the stage with old friends and fellow musicians Jim Faichney and George Graham. Importantly, here they would also rub shoulders with well known dignitaries and showbiz celebrities, all keen to welcome them to their fold. Although the years as one of the country's most sought after 'society' singers are firmly behind him, thankfully Don still has a desire to make and share his music. He continues to write popular music for Warner Brothers Music, music beds for TV and movies and has recently completed work on 'Loch Ness - The Monster Musical'. Many thousands of people have now seen his blistering annual sell-out live shows. The spectacular shows; All NIght Long, The Paradise Cruise, M, Variety and MV2, show no sign of letting up and with an extended cast that includes; Paradise, Colin Scougall, Craig Chalmers, Willie Anderson and Chris and Nadine judge, his position as host one of the country's most popular live shows seems secured. No one quite laments the angst of unrequited love quite the same as Don Jack who - for over a decade - has written a plethora of classic songs on this subject among other less easily interpreted. 'Paradise' takes his songwriting to a more sophisticated level ranging from some of the sweetest string arrangements on ‘Velvet Eyes’ to the almost acoustic version of ‘Running’ with co-vocalist Ann Turner. ‘Running’ overall has an American feel to it, although a love of the traditional Scottish ballad can still be heard above even the hardest percussion loop. Following on from the success of ‘Time Stands Still For No Man’ dedicated to his wee girl Pauline, this next album is sure to strike an emotional cord with all of us, this is the stuff we love. The albums: 'Paradise' and his new album of music: 'I can't believe it's not Buddha' recorded by Don Jack and the Soapladies, are both now available. Don Jack strongly believes in communicating at every level to exhaust all possible sources in his quest for inspiration. He makes it his business to absorb fresh lessons with each project he undertakes and to be familiar, not only with historical and contemporary influences, but with the nature of modern society also. Don stands out from the crowd by using his open mindedness together with an inbuilt secret weapon - his uncanny, intuitive approach. As a result, his instinctive attitudes have quickly found success through his musical concepts and ideas. He is a master at cultivating sounds and images today that will have global appeal and surround us all tomorrow. Among other business interests, Don Jack is the creative director of the design company IDEAS who work within the music industry among other international client groups. Among others, Don has performed, recorded or worked together with the following artists/individuals/companies who have helped shaped his career: The Precious Organisation, Mercury Records, Wet Wet Wet, London Records, Cargo Records UK, Cargo Records USA, Polygram Video, Philips, Michael Bolton, Prince, Abbey Road, The Drifters, Yaz, Runrig, Hue and Cry, Jimmy James, Lulu, Edwin Star, The Brill Building, Marti Wild, BA Robertson, Samuel L Jackson, Ashley Jensen, Dougray Scott, Billy Boyd, Chris Hoy, Ally McCoist, Fred MacAulay, Karen Dunbar, Elaine C Smith, John Gordon Sinclair, Paul Carrack, ]911, Virgin, EMI, Sony, Warner Brothers, Acuff Rose, BBC, STV, Channel 4, Radio Clyde.
