简介
Found aimlessly wandering the streets of deepest darkest Hull in 2008, carrying only a black bin liner full of lyrics and singing random Everly Brothers tunes, Keith Hagger was picked up by Local music mogul Stewart Baxter, who gave him refuge in the Warren – a community project helping young people in the city. Whilst trying to keep him sober, Stewart fed his musical appetite, turning the cheeky chav who smells of chicken fat (he worked at KFC) into the man he is today - a cheeky chav who smells of chicken fat. Keith’s jovial wit and love of tracksuits later led him to appear in an episode of Channel four’s The Secret Millionaire alongside local hat wearing folk musician Jody Mckenna in 2009. They helped secure £20,000 for The Warren, enabling them to start a record label and shortly thereafter Keith cut his first demos and went on to play the main stage of Hull’s Freedom Festival in front of several thousand music lovers. Keith eventually found his band in the summer of 2012. The legend goes that stumbling home one balmy night, mid July, Keith happened upon the cross-roads where he met a local character by the name of the Kinky Wizard. The Kinky one made him an offer he couldn't refuse, the red pill... or the blue pill. Keith took both. And borrowed some tobacco while he was at it. But a friendship was formed. A week later they met Jamie, and armed with a Bo Diddley cover and three guitar chords, the trio embarked on an intensive, year long, world tour of open mics – at the same 4 Hull pubs. Local musicians Dan, Rob and Dan– who collectively make a ‘Rob Danwich’ – loved the way The Quicksilver Kings made plagiarism cool. Growing increasingly jealous, one night they decided it was their mission to destroy the band and all that it stands for. But eventually, after half an hour’s contemplation, they gave up and decided to join them instead. Spreading their brand of original country, folk, blues & pop they gained a committed fan-base in their home town playing both small acoustic and full electric sets and in 2013 released their first EP ‘Washed Away’, following that up in 2014 with the EP ‘Live in Diggers Living room’. 2013 also saw them play on the main stage of Hull Trinity Festival alongside Dodgy. They have spent 2015 recording their Debut album ready for release in early 2016 as well as cementing there reputation as festival favourites with gigs across the country. And so, over 3 years, 50 songs, 3 new members and one additional guitar chord later, and having played numerous festivals and gigs along the way, here are The Quicksilver Kings. Born through a shared love of beer, old music, cigarettes, beer, camp-fires, beer and cider. Saving the world, one recycled song at a time
