Wood & Wires documents the collaboration between Ray Dillard and Don Nichols throughout vastly different physical spaces. Engaging an array of percussion instruments, circuit-bent electronics, found objects and environmental sounds, the duo crafts dynamic musical exchanges while inhabiting their surroundings. Ray Dillard is a percussionist, composer and producer based in Toronto, Canada. He is the long-time Recording Engineer/Producer and Business Manager of the iconic Nexus Percussion Group. Don Nichols is an LA-based percussionist, composer and educator. He is the Music Director for the Dance Department at Long Beach State University. Together, Dillard and Nichols explored non-traditional spaces of a barn (tracks 1, 3, 6, 13), living room (tracks 2, 7, 10), and electronically between California and Toronto (tracks 4, 8, 9, 11, 12). The result is a collection of [quickly] shifting sonic environments/landscapes, each with a distinctive landscape. All compositions created and performed by Ray Dillard and Don Nichols except Precho created and performed by Don Nichols and A-Round-whole(d) created and performed by Ray Dillard.
