简介
The Ergonomic Flute explores the latest collaborative innovation in the evolution of the modern flute. The chamber works by Mozart and Beethoven included on this recording were chosen to test the capabilities of a new type of instrument. The unusual flute used on this recording is created by pairing the body of a traditional flute with a revolutionary headjoint called the UpRite. This headjoint has mitered curves which preserve the dimensions of the tube necessary to create beautiful, resonant sound. Referred to as the “ergonomic flute” as performed by Aralee Dorough and invented by Sanford Drelinger, this reconfigured modern flute has all the acoustic beauty of its transverse counterpart. The final track, Bach’s Air on the G string, as arranged by Theobald Boehm, the 19th century inventor of the modern flute, makes reference to the timeless interface between inventor, performer and composer. Flutist Aralee Dorough has performed around the world as soloist, chamber musician and Principal Flutist of the Houston Symphony. Her solo disc, Colours, features orchestral works by Debussy, Bartok, Barber, Martin, Griffes and Stravinsky transcribed for flute & piano and highlights her affinity for the colors of the 20th century orchestra.
