Hey there! Back, from outer space - why not? Our second release is all about the mystic and emotional... not so much in the soulful sense, but rather of the profoundly electronic persuasion. The artists behind the original pieces call themselves Afaire! A grew up on a healthy daily dose of break dancing and record scratching and his roots in house music culture. Their overall production (signed before to labels such as Kaato, and supported, amongst others, by Shinedoe, Someone Else or the Jacuzzi Boys) reveals an acute sense of soundscape and abstraction, and touch base at anything from Philip Glass and Ennio Morricone, to DJ Pierre and Armando. Let's have a listen... "1995" sounds like an ethereal memory of a sound sculpture diluted through the passage of time, it's a hint of a certain atmosphere found only in one particular set of coordinates. Depth and hypnosis are explored with razor sharp funk beats, vocoded suggestions (à la Space), discoid techno bass of the arpeggiated sort, a lingering monophonic lead... it's a well balanced take on the equilibrium of melancholy and ecstasy. Felkon's remix of "1995" falls deeper into the original's disco influence, where a loopy arp lead lies atop a sawtooth bassline. The tempo feels looser and slower, and all kinds of LFO and filtering about, adding to this version's psychedelic appeal. It is for all effects, the perfect late hour beach party track. It's quite a stone's throw away from his roots as a punk musician, but the result is none less than heart warming. "Timecolour" has a denser melodic appeal, furthering what appears to be a melodic translation of the authoring couple's sincerest feelings for each other. Starting with yet another intense and simple set of drums, the first thing that hits you is the drama of a tear jerking set of keys that gives way to a deliciously melodic set of synths, stuttering amidst a simple rhythm pattern, opening and closing a filter that reveals a hidden roughness to the piece. Label head João Silva , A.K.A JEPE, former half of the Johnwaynes project goes head on into the remix, adding an extra layer of cinematography to the original. An effective club tool, driven by a pulsating baseline and a relentless 808 kit, shuffling through it's arrangement. The beat gets stronger and a set of stratospheric strings dwell, eerily, defining the track's contemplative and almost trance-inducing nature. As we promised before, Blossom are keen on eclecticism and exploring many different aspects of electronic music, not expecting to please every one at once.
