简介

THE ROLAND P. YOUNG BIOGRAPHY Traversing the Electonica spectrum from Ambient through Acid House, Nu Jazz, Jungle, Lounge and Down Tempo, Infinite Sound's regeneration, represents a culminating point on the infinite sound journey of composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Roland P. Young. In addition to producing and composing the music for regeneration, he performs on vocals, keyboards, clarinet, tenor and alto saxophones. Roland started studying classical clarinet at age 9 under the tutelage of his grandfather, virtuoso clarinetist, Lawrence Denton, one of the innovators of the Kansas City Jazz sound. As a teen, he additionally studied singing, formed a vocal group and started his career as a performing artist. He produced his first vinyl at age 14 as Roland Young and the Velveteers. Roland was a DJ on the premier San Francisco underground FM radio station KSAN. He later joined the public radio station, KPFA in Berkeley, as a DJ and program producer, and eventually became Program Director. It was during this period that he perfected the concept of eclectic cross-genre/world music mixes. He incorporated this concept into his music compositions. Roland formed the acoustic/electronic ensemble Infinite Sound and they recorded a ground breaking synthesizes of Chamber, Jazz, and Electronic music documented on their self-titled album Infinite Sound, released on the famous 1750 Arch Street Records. The album was received in the US and Japan with great critical acclaim. While performing with Infinite Sound, on experimental projects with various musicians, and as a solo acoustic/electronic musician Roland contributed to the developed of the genre currently known as Electonica. He produced his first solo album for Flow Chart Records, Isophonic Boogie Woogie, in which he developed his concepts to more refined levels. He eventually realized it was time for a major change-he relocated to New York where he currently lives with his wife, Risa, and their daughter, Lena. In New York Roland initially worked on the avant-garde jazz and cultural scene performing with many renowned composers, performers, and dancers. He eventually realized that he was going in a very different direction than those with whom he was performing. In the 80's, Roland joined the Ska-New Wave band the Offs, with whom he toured the US, recorded, and produced a milestone album for 415 records, entitled First Record. He left the Offs and continued to perform as a solo electronic artist releasing two more solo albums on Flow Chart Records; I-Land and Hearsay Evidence. He knew that it was the milieu that best displayed his sound concepts. To his amusement he was derided by former jazz associates for "turning his back on the true" (non-electronic) jazz, by club owners for being a solo artist and not having a "band," and by record executives for creating a sound that they were unwilling to market. Roland was, nonetheless committed to the dictum that perseverance furthers. To him this was a decisive moment, the test of his artistic commitment to the Zen of continuance. The sounds within his soul and the concepts within his mind drove him to continue vigorously on his creative electronic path. During the 1990s, Roland sought the solace of his Isophonic studio where he worked on new concepts, rehearsed, composed, and recorded hundreds of original tracks. Fortunately the climate for creative electronic music began to change for the better during the '90s and by the end of the decade the public had embraced the concepts that Roland had been developing and perfecting. Consequently, he has reemerged with regeneration from Infinite Sound. This is the beginning of a long series of creations from a 21st Century Renaissance Man, Roland P. Young.
