简介

“Brendan is hilarious.” —Right This Minute TV “I get a kick out of Hughes.” —New Haven Advocate “Move over Leno and Letterman.” —Provincetown Banner “Wombats poop cubes.” —Anonymous Brendan Hughes grew up on a commune started by the inventor of rubber gloves. There, he spent his childhood taking naps in the sun on the stomach of a lazy bull named Stanley. The Pizzicato Effect, his debut stand-up comedy album, features Hughes's misguided attempt to answer three question of profound ontological significance, famously posed by Paul Gaugin: a) Where do we come from? b) Why are we here?, and c) What happens when we die? Deploying diagrams, theories and preposterous arcana, Hughes draws in Euclid’s ecstasy-induced perfect rectangle, Plato’s penchant for name-dropping, Julius Caesar's IT department, Pope Gregory XIII’s time travel proclivities, Donald Rumsfeld’s unknown unknowns obsession, Miles Davis’s unplayed notes and Wolfgang A. Mozart’s delicious use of restraint... all in a desperate attempt to double-click on the universe. A graduate of the Yale School of Drama, Hughes switched to comedy from the theatre when he realized he enjoyed introducing plays a lot more than he enjoyed directing them. Brendan Hughes has been described as the bizarre love child of Eddie Izzard and Radiolab's Jad Abumrad, kidnapped by John Hodgman, tied by the ankle to a tree and left for dead by Gertrude Stein, and found and raised by a roving pack of Steve Martin records.
