简介

"The Dark Side of The Street”: that’s the title of the Magicaboola Brass Band new album. After the release of the previous two albums, “Boom” (2008) and “Attaccati alla luna” (2012), they come out in 2015 with their third album. The new album is available online or for sale at the several live shows of the band (further information on the website http://www.magicaboola.com). “The dark side of the street” is a new project consisting of fourteen tracks of which nine are original compositions (arrangements edited by Alessandro Riccucci except for “Chubanga” edited by Mauro “Otto” Ottolini). The front cover shows an urban scenery; as a matter of fact, an itinerant-travelling music idea is the main feature of the band. When you first listen to the songs, you can immediately notice how the arrangements, lyrics and sonorities are focused on celebrating the street art. It’s a very strong bond that captivates every member to the street art, an art that every one of them has developed through the years by taking part at some of the most important festival in Italy and Europe. Many guest artists of jazz Italian Scene gave a contribution to the fulfilment of the project, like the italan jazz artist saxophonist Stefano “Cocco” Cantini with a wonderfull intepretation an Soprano Sax solo in the 1930s standard song "On the Sunny Side of The Street" with a latin mood Magicaboola arrangement; the Italian Jazz pianis Mauro Grossi with a stunning acoustic piano intro e solo in the "52nd Street Theme" and a funky groove and solo with Fender Rhodes and.Clavinet in the Magicaboola original tune "The Dark Side"; Corrado Rossetti Guitar, in "Road Song": Andrea Lupi rhythmic Banjo in the originals tunes "Route 398" and "Ho bisogno d'Aria; the italian rapper Frabolo with his Vocals on "Ho Bisogno d'Aria"; and some of the Sousaphonix musicians like Vanessa Tagliabue Yorke (Vocals), Vincenzo Vasi (Theremin, Electronics), and the percussionist Maurilio Balzanelli (Chubanga). After the previous album “Attaccati alla luna” and a live Show for The Lucca Summer Festival 2012, the band carries on the collaboration with the trombonist Mauro “Otto” Ottolini, who attends to the project by providing an arrangement of one of his song titled “Chubanga”, recorded live in april 2015 in San Vincenzo at "Cittadella Concert Hall" during a live show called "Sousaphonx meets Magicaboola". Another artist who takes part at the album’s production is one of the icon of italian music the drummer Ellade Bandini, playing in the song “Sad Suite”. The collaboration has started in 2013 during the Manciano Street Music Festival. “Sad Suite” is a tribute to the soul and r&b music The song has been perfomed live in june 2015 along with the videoclip available on the band’s YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/Yovlp4Avkjs (video shooting by RoomVideo). One last important collaboration is with Nick the Nightfly, started in 2011. The singer and radio host gives his contribute by singing in “Road Song” by Wes Montgomery with an original arrangement of Alessandro Riccucci and lirycs by Nick The NightFly himself. Magicaboola Brass Band carries on the long tradition of the marching bands started at the beginning of the ‘900, incorporating at the same time all the characteristics of a modern street band thanks to a very various ensemble, consisting of trumpets, trombones, saxes, sousaphones, Kick, snare drum and percussions. All this is combined with dynamism and choreographies in order to create a very close involvement with the public during every concert. Nowadays, after collecting gigs all around Italy and Europe (United Kingdom, Switzerland, France and Spain), Magicaboola Brass band is one of the best-known street bands.
